Re: New 5 KW AM Transmitter

Biggest problem with the Nautels is they're voltage sensitive. He did
say their power was a bit undependable. A Nautel could still be used,
but they'd need some sort of voltage regulator ahead of it, otherwise
he'd best get one with a switch-mode power supply. Had a situation
lasting much of this year where I had one transmitter tapped for higher
voltage and another tapped for a lower voltage since I was getting some
rather wild swings. Didn't measure each delta leg, but just monitoring
the rack voltage was enough. Sometimes it would be down around 114 and
it sometimes jumped to 126. If the voltage rose while the lower voltage
one was on the air, come pattern change it wouldn't come back on. If I
heard little hiccups in the audio on the one set to high, I knew voltage
dropped again and it was time to switch to the other one.

I have to agree with the rest of them. For the money, the BE is a well made
transmitter.
If price was not a consideration, I'd buy a Nautel. Harris is good too, but
too many of my engineer friends are complaining about the Harris tech
support not being as good as it once was.
